俳句 365 haiku (114) 《一八 Kunpūshi》

昨夜の雨たたへ一八二輪咲く

(yobe-no-ame tatae-ichihatsu nirin-saku)

           (薫風士)

wearing drops of last night rain,

two roof irises

have bloomed

                 (Lovee)

(Note)

In Japanese, "wear (湛える)" and "praise (称える)" are homonyms having the same pronunciation "tataeru".

Therefore, it is possible to translate the haiku in either meaning when hiragana (ひらがな) is used instead of kanji (漢字) for "tataeru".
