In Japanese, "wear (湛える)" and "praise (称える)" are homonyms having the same pronunciation "tataeru".
Therefore, it is possible to translate the haiku in either meaning when hiragana (ひらがな) is used instead of kanji (漢字) for "tataeru".
These pictures show the roof irises that first bloomed in the garden of Kunpūshi this year.
