初日の出茜雲より黄金雲

the New year sunrise_

the clouds turned

from crimson to golden

   

戌年の愛犬侍り注連飾る

(inudoshino aikenhaberi shimekazaru)

　　

I put-up a sacred festoon,

my Dog-year born dog

sitting by me

   

三世代突く大鯛屠蘇祝ふ

(sansedai tsutsukuoodai tosoiwau)

　　

my family of three generations

pick a large porgy_

I enjoy New year’s sake

     　　　

初日射す市境の小道愛犬と

(hatsuhisasu shikyounokomichi aikento)

toward the New year rising sun,

I walk with my dog

on the city boundary path

  　　　　　

初落暉街を眼下に月白し

(hatsurakki machiwogankani tsukishiroshi)

　　

the New year setting sun behind_

I look down at my town,

facing the white full moon
