山の音吸ひ込む春の凍し滝

古郷や餅につき込む春の雪

(furusato-ya mochi-ni-tsukikomu haru-no-yuki)

pounding steamed-rice for making “mochi”,

with the fallen-in spring snow

 (Note)

The word “moch” in this haiku means “soft steamed and pounded rice, which is eaten in various ways as it is, or which is otherwise formed into rice cakes.

(Note)

"Konnichiwa" is one of greetings like "Hello!" or "Hi!", which is used during some time around noon between after "Good morning!" and before "Good evening!".

凍蝶の己が魂追うて飛ぶ

(itechōno onogatamashii outetobu)

         (虚子 Kyoshi)

    

a frozen butterfly
fly, chasing
her own spirit
                 (Lovee)

   

(Note)

In the translation of this haiku, the verb “fly” in the form of bare infinitive is adopted because it is not real description of natural scene but imaginary expression of what Kyoshi felt upon seeing a butterfly in the winter.

凍て解けて筆に汲み干す清水哉

(ite-tokete fude-ni-kumi-hosu shimizu-kana)

                  (芭蕉 Bashō)

I soaked a calligraphy brush,

having the spring water run dry

  

(Note)

According to "芭蕉db.", Bashō composed this haiku around the spring called "toku-toku" at Yoshino in Mie prefecture.   

(Refer to the first picture by 芭蕉db.)
