大寒の埃の如く人死ぬる

(daikan-no hokori-no-gotoku hito-shinuru)

people will die

as if they were

dust in the midwinter

Kyoshi composed this haiku at the age of 67 in 1941, when the Pacific War occurred.

老ひたれば無欲の牛歩去年今年
