This haiku is a kind of pun for making haiku-composition interesting by means of homonyms.
You may know that the word “彼岸” (higan), which means "equinox"', is a homonym of “悲願” (long-felt wish).

The term “開間” (kaikan), which is coined by Kunpūshi for expressing "event period", has homonyms such as "快感" (pleasant sensation), "会館"(hall), "開館" (opening of hall), etc.

Chōyō_

peaceful gag haiku
(Lovee)
(Note)
As to words having the pronunciation of chōyō, there are homonyms such as “重陽” (Chrysanthemum Festival; September 9, the ninth day of the ninth month originally applied in the old calendar), “徴用” (drafting), “長幼” (young and old), “重用” (important position), etc.
In this calendar, which is a part of the calendar for September published by the Association of Japanese Classical Haiku, conveniently “重陽” is put on the 9th September. However, actually it should be put on October 10th in 2025 because the day of “重陽” (Chrysanthemum Festival; September 9, the ninth day of the ninth month) is originally applied in the old calendar.

(Lovee)
(Note)
As to the pronunciation of「き」(ki), there are many homonyms such as「樹」(tree),「機」(opportunity),「器」(vessel),「期」(time),「季」(season),「気」(feeling), etc.
Therefore, I would be pleased if you consider the above haiku as a pun, taking the Meimuna opalifera as a metaphor.
