俳句 365 haiku (127) 《粽 Buson》

粽解いて蘆吹く風の音聞かん

(chimaki-toite ashi-fuku-kaze-no oto-kikan)

                                 (蕪村)

unwrapping a chimaki,

I’ll listen to sounds of

wind blowing through reeds

                                        (Lovee)

(Note)

The word “chimaki” means a kind of rice-dumpling wrapped with a bamboo grass leaf.

In Japanese haiku, the subject "I" is usually omitted because its meaning is understandable without the subject.

In the above translation, however, "I'll" is added because the subject "I" is generally necesary to make its meaning clear in English haiku.
