俳句 365 haiku (100) 《春潮 Kyoshi》

   

春潮にたとひ櫓櫂は重くとも

(shunchō-ni tatoi-rokai-wa omoku-tomo)

　　　　　　　　　（虚子）

　　

even if

the oar is heavy

against the spring tide_ 

                     (Lovee)

    

(Note)

Kyoshi composed this metaphorical haiku to encourage Kyoshi's granddaughter (Nakako Bōjō 1928.5.12~2021.8.16) when she took an entrance examination for a nursing school in 1947.

In this haiku, what Kyoshi intended to say as a main clause is omitted because haiku is not a prose.
